What is a Hepatitis A?

Hepatitis-a is a serious liver disease that can cause jaundice, fever, and nausea. It is caused by hepatitis a virus (HAV and is usually spread by faecal matter or blood contaminated by the virus. Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver caused by an infection. Some types of hepatitis can be serious and cause liver scarring and even liver failure. There are two types of hepatitis – hepatitis A and hepatitis B. Both types can be spread by blood or other bodily fluids and can be contracted from sexual activity. If infected, it is important to seek medical attention immediately as complications can arise if left untreated.

Symptoms may include:

• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes)

• Abdominal pain

• Fever
